PORTLAND, Maine -- The state's supreme court yesterday upheld a Skowhegan man's nine-year prison term for armed robbery, with the majority brushing aside arguments that the trial judge was not fully aware of the young offender's compelling personal problems.

Throughout his childhood and adolescence, Adam R. Weir, now 20, had endured physical and emotional trauma, according to an extensive presentence investigation and psychological evaluations noted by the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
